sun, solar panels(x4), re-salvaged metal, linear actuator(x2), cable, found floral printed notepad

The solar panel system outside the gallery is designed as an ad-hoc solar tracker, adjusting its position to follow the sun’s movement from east to west throughout the day.
This system consists of four 12V solar cells mounted on a triangular structure outside the gallery.
-
Two opposing solar cells provide power to a small linear actuator motor, which adjusts the position of the triangular solar panel system to track the sun.
-
The other two opposing solar cells are wired into the gallery and provide power to a separate actuator motor inside the space, which controls the movement of the sculpture within the space.
As the outdoor solar tracker moves, its movement is mirrored by the sculptural “sunflower” inside the gallery, allowing it to follow the sun’s position in a manner similar to a real sunflower.

Live Royal Albatross Cam - New Zealand Dept. Of Conservation · Cornell Lab –
A 24-hour live stream of a Northern Royal Albatross nest during the breeding season on the southeast tip of New Zealand's South Island.

I’ve reframed the livestream by zooming in on a single portion of the image in an effort to focus in on the surrounding natural forces.
Conservationists stream their efforts to preserve the remaining royal albatross – a species suffering the consequences of human destruction. With the albatross rarely on screen, nature’s quiet persistence fills the frame.

The work played undisturbed and was active for the entire duration of the exhibition period.

The work "a sip of water between each word might change the view" was influenced by a method of agricultural watering, known as a gravity feed irrigation system.
This methodology has been adapted and altered, here it's been configured to sustain the developing growth of algae amongst a found object (sponge).
The irrigation system releases one drop of water approximately every 5 minutes and was functionally active throughout the entire duration of the exhibition, nourishing its growth.
The work came to fruition inspired by an awareness of a problematic world view pointed out by Fritjof Capra. That being, the human tendency to view the natural world we live in as a machine at our disposal rather than a systematic world view in which the interrelated systems function in a harmonious relationship–influenced by each and the other.

the value of value, space for space, 2024
coconut coir, re-salvaged shelving system

Moss needs adequate moister in order to endure and grow. When that need is not fulfilled the moss dries up and goes dormant until the conditions are right again for it to awake.
The blue drum is 1/2 filled with water. Inside the drum also lies an ultrasonic generator, emitting ultrasonic frequencies that gradually but ultimately transforms water into mist.
The mist then accumulates in the drum. The fan atop the lid of the drum pulls air in from the room, into the drum, forcing the mist out of the drilled holes circling the lid.
The mist is then projected upward in an attempt to sustain the moisture viable for the moss to flourish.
